Horrors’ Faris Badwan plans exhibition at The Strand Gallery

FANS of The Horrors can now get an extra insight into the psyche of frontman Faris Badwan as he prepares to show a collection of his drawings in a forthcoming solo exhibition, Creatures in Colour: Sketchbooks.

The Strand Gallery will show the retrospective collection of the artist’s intricate, dreamlike ink drawings, alongside new works in watercolours.

The singer and former student at the St. Martins College of Art, has documented his entire life through drawing and his work has graced the album sleeves of The Horrors (well, it would be rude not to…) and The Charlatans.

Alongside pages from Faris’ sketchbooks, the Gallery will also exhibit a selection of new pieces in watercolour and acrylic.

Faris said: “The Creatures in Colour will be compiled from sketchbooks I’ve been keeping over the past couple of years, I draw all the time and as a result the books end up documenting everything.

“Aside from the visual diary aspect Proud Gallery will be exhibiting new unseen paintings and drawings more focussed around colour and technique. There were ideas in the last exhibition that I wanted to develop and expand upon, and a lot of the mark-making in the new work is more expressive and intense.”

18 September – 30th September 2012.
