WE have a new obsession in the Pillow Magazine office – Tea Pigs Super Power Organic Matcha Green Tea. We love it, and we think you will love it too. And seeing as it’s cuisine month and we’re thinking of all things food, we wanted to share some recipe ideas with you.
Here, our very own Anna Bridgeman takes you through some of the most amazing things you can do with the Matcha Green Tea…. (including add booze to it, of course) as well as sip it from a china cup.
Tea Pigs Matcha Green Tea
I recently purchased some Tea Pigs Super Power Organic Matcha Green Tea – the only healthy claim I have is that I am completely and utterly obsessed with green tea, so this was the next natural progression.
There has recently been a lot of hype about the health benefits of Matcha, and so we thought we’d give you Pillowettes something a bit different and a lot healthy to try out yourself using some cool recipes!
So, this powdery green stuff, is it really that incredible?
My answer is Y-E-S and here’s why: You can do almost anything with it, drink it, cook it (and get a little tipsy from it too!) rather than having it plain with some hot water.
Not to mention it actually tastes good, and doesn’t seem to be doing me any harm – and I feel more boosted and energised after I’ve had some, so that’s good enough for me!
These are the Top Five things to do with Matcha green tea
1. Iced Matcha Lattes – Really easy to make and really yummy.
Put half a teaspoon of Matcha powder and half a teaspoon of sugar (or to taste) into a glass, add a little hot water and mix to make a paste, add ice cubes and top up with milk.

2. Matcha Martinis – guilt free drinking, nothing feels better!
Put half a teaspoon of Matcha powder and half a teaspoon of sugar (or to taste) and two tablespoons of water into a glass and make a paste. Pour the mixture into a cocktail shaker with ice and two shots of vodka and get shaking like James Bond. Rim a martini glass with some sugar and pour in the drink from the cocktail shaker – top up with soda water if it’s a bit strong (as if). Et Voila!

3. Matcha Ice Cream – Looks green, tastes green (in the good way!)
The easiest way to do this is to cheat a bit (why waste time making ice cream from scratch?) and simply add one tablespoon of Matcha powder to some already softened ice cream, stir in and put back in the freezer.
Top tip – you could also put a scoop or two into a Matcha Latte to make a Matcha Frappe, or on top of your martini and make a vodka float!
4. Matcha Smoothie – A great way to start the day.
Chuck all of this into a blender and you’ll be the healthiest and vitalised person in the office! Half an apple, quarter of a celery stick, 2 sprigs of mint, half a banana and half a pear (or double the mixture and refrigerate left overs for the following day) – a super-food smoothie and a super happy tummy!
5. Matcha Cookies – The best of both worlds, indulgent and healthy!
Make a basic cookie recipe; 200g butter, 200g sugar, 2 large eggs, 300g plain flour, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 and a half teaspoons of Matcha powder – beat butter and sugar until creamy, add in eggs and vanilla, slowly add dry ingredients, roll out dough, get cookie cutting, whack the oven on 200 degrees and in 10 minutes you have your green (literally and figuratively) cookies!
Being healthy definitely doesn’t have to be hard work or boring.
And yes, everything above will almost definitely turn bright green! (We aren’t joking!)
