Outstanding Travel and Wildlife Images Submitted for the Sony World Photography Awards

THE competition is heating up for the Sony World Photography Awards 2013 – and some of the entries take our breath away.

One of the world’s leading photographic awards programmes, the Sony World Photography Awards showcase the very best in contemporary photography across a range of categories – from Nature & Wildlife to Current Affairs and Travel.

From close-ups of tiny animals such as a spider (don’t scream!) or an ant with dew drop all over its body – the range of photography  is outstanding.

Elsewhere there are pics of children integrating and playing around with graphic art, top right, by Italian snapper Simone Tramonte, and a shot of a trophy hunter from Minsk, Belarus by Vadim Kachan.

Professionals are competing for the title of L’Iris d’Or/Sony World Photography Awards Professional Photographer of the Year 2013, plus a £15,000 cash prize.

Amateur photographers are vying for the Open Photographer of the Year 2013 plus £3,000.

The shortlist for the competition will be announced on 5 February 2013 and the overall winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony in London on 25 April 2013.
