Editor’s Letter: A Brief History of Pillow Magazine

Welcome to the first ever Editor’s Letter for Pillow Magazine.

Now, you could say that it’s a long time in the making as I founded Pillow Magazine almost three years’ ago, having always wanted to create my own publication.

I started working in media in 2003 and watched the digital revolution unfold (very slowly). I later came to realise that print wasn’t a medium that was kind to a young publisher but I could easily start my magazine online.

Pillow started from humble beginnings, more a collection of thoughts than anything else, but has since grown in a fully-fledged magazine and often the first to write about artists. We wrote about Willy Moon, Lana Del Rey, Jessie J and Azealia Banks months before the mainstream press.

We’ve scored exclusives with stars like Nicola Roberts and Aiden Grimshaw and created stunning fashion shoots featuring celebs like Jorgie Porter and the cast of Hollyoaks.

More recently I created a video from a press trip to Berlin, and so keep your eyes peeled for much more visual content from the team here at the mag.

I’m very lucky to have a team of dedicated writers, stylists and photographers and there’s no better feeling that someone telling me that they really ‘get’ Pillow Mag and the vision that I am trying to realise.

I want Pillow to tread the uncharted territory between the uber-trendy titles (Hunger, Dazed & Confused, i-D) and the commercial women’s publications (Glamour, Marie Claire, Elle).

We give readers a heads up on who, what and where is cool, but show that anyone can get involved in being creative, listening to the most exciting bands and going to events that will make all your friends green with envy.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on what you’d like to see on the site, so please do get in touch using the contact details below.

Until next time,
