THIS week we go Behind the Blog with Madison Giddings from Madizine and we find out exactly why she loves Zooey Deschanel, spent nine months organising her last birthday and which beauty product she cannot live without.

Name: Madison Giddings

Blog address: www.madizine.net

Twitter, YouTube and Instagram handles: @Madizine

Age: 21

When did you start your blog and what topics do you cover?

I started my blog about a year ago – planning, hiring a web designer and fiddling around with the minor details. I did my first post in January 2013 and haven’t looked back since…

My blog covers events in my life, thoughts I have in the form of a “column” and features, humorous lists, and I’ve just begun the fashion side to my blog by posting my second outfit post – my first was courtesy of More! Magazine as I was featured in their street style section.

What makes your blog unique?

I’d love to create my own magazine or even work for one, therefore I figured the easiest way I could do that was to start a blog in the general shape of a mag… I try to make it light-hearted and humorous, with blocks of my writing as well as photos – mixing that with fashion pieces is slightly different to other lifestyle blogs out there.

Madison Giddings from Madizine Who are your favourite other bloggers?

I am COMPLETELY blog obsessed. I have so many that I’m following, but I suppose the sites I most frequently visit are:

Fashion – http://flashesofstyle.blogspot.co.uk/ , http://www.thecherryblossomgirl.com/ , http://gemfatale.blogspot.co.uk/

Travel – http://gohemiantravellers.com/ ,

Wedding – http://www.bespoke-bride.com/ , http://www.yorkshireheritagebus.co.uk/blog/ ,

General – http://www.sparkles-and-crumbs.com/ , http://www.yosoydollface.com/

Feel-good – www.galadarling.com

Tips for other bloggers?

I have a full time job, love to socialise with my friends and boyfriend, go to lots of family events and enjoy exploring London… which all don’t leave much time for blogging! My tip for other bloggers is to establish a routine for writing / editing / uploading posts.

What’s the hardest thing about blogging?

Same as above – time. I try to post every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and if I don’t I feel very guilty!

Which cool and quirky celebrities style do you admire?

Zooey Deschanel, Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, Gizzi Erskine – basically anyone with a fringe.

Who are your favourite cool and quirky fashion designers?

My style is a contrasting mix of vintage 40’s or 60’s, swinging to 90’s graphic and fun! Designers I adore are:

If you could travel anywhere in world, where would it be?

I really want to do Route 66 but I’ve already been to America a couple of times so… I’ve just finished reading Winter Wonderland by Belinda Jones (which I thoroughly enjoyed) – it’s set in Quebec in Canada. I’d really love to visit the Winter Carnival that the storyline surrounds, she portrays it as being “trapped in a snowglobe”. I always go to hot places, preferring to relax than, say, skiing and freezing my arse off! But this book really made me want to visit that part of Canada at that time of the year, and the fact that the main character is a blogger probably encouraged my enthusiasm to visit this cool – haw haw – place.

Most embarrassing moment on a date… ever?

Once I was on a date with this guy and his best mate turned up and just sat with us. It was like I was dating two people. Awkward. But I’m still with the guy now so I guess it didn’t put me off!

Make-up item that you can’t live without?

I CANNOT – repeat, CANNOT live without eyeliner. I like to think in another life I was a panda – constantly kohl’ed up eyes. However, I’m not too fussy which brand it is – as long as it’s dark and liquid.

A specific item I can’t live without is Lanolips 101 ointment (http://www.lanolips.com/uk/). It’s a serious miracle worker for dry lips, and not too sticky. They also sell the balm in hints of colour, which I’m currently loving. The ointment is made out of sheep’s wool / wax, so you can imagine how soft it makes your lips. Not baaa-d at all. Sorry.

This time next year we won’t be able to stop talking about…..?

The Audience. It’s my boyfriend’s band. I know I’m biased, but whatevs. They haven’t released anything yet but you’ll soon hear about them…

My most spontaneous moment ever was…..

Hahaha… spontaneity is not in my dictionary. I am the most organised person EVER – I planned my last birthday 9 months in advance. I could have had a baby in that time. AN ACTUAL PERSON COULD HAVE BEEN PRODUCED.

My diary is my life, and if anyone changes a plan and forces me to get out my Tippex, they are off my Christmas card list forever.

My worst crime against fashion was….

Purple trousers. Enough said.

Have you ever cried after a bad haircut?

No. I have had the same haircut since – well, since I’ve had hair pretty much. I have a full fringe during the Winter, and then grow it out in the Summer. It is called my Seasonal Fringe. (See spontaneous question).

What is on your Spotify ‘most-played’ right now?

I love it by Icona pop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxxajLWwzqY). Apart from anything Pharell Williams has touched this year, this is definitely the song of the summer. And if you disagree, I don’t care. I love it.

If I could sum up Pillow Magazine in three words, what they would be…..?

Quirky. Rad. Madizine-approved.
